2014 so far...

How has everyone's 2014 been so far? I feel like the last month and a bit just absolutely flew by.

So what have I been doing..? Hmmm I've been working a lot, sleeping a lot, being cold a lot and walking on snow a lot. Man it's been snowing heaps lately. Nothing better than the fear of falling over on icy snow and breaking my hips at the tender age of 25. Sorry, 26 at this point.

That guy is sick of snow
I've been meaning to go to the Metropolitan museum for the last..like 6 weeks but managed to fail miserably week after week.

I've been eating out a lot though. Ticked off a few of my 'to visit in NYC' list. Went out with the GFU-nit (aka Hosler, Just Matter (aka Matt Siegel) and Jae Jung) to the newly opened Mission Cantina by Danny Bowien of the Mission Chinese fame. It was funky Mexican food and I enjoyed it far more than their Chinese counterpart. Maybe it was the company. We found it easier to tell our waiter what we DIDN'T want from the menu than what we did. Ended up ordering like 12 different tacos and other yummy things. We basically told the waiter the three things we DIDN'T want from the menu.  Ahhhhhh how I love excessive eating!!

The BEST chicken wings EVVVVEEEERRRR

I gave up taking photos after this one...

We paid a quick visit to Russ & Daughter's as we had heard about the place everyday running the 'Smoke' course. It was super cool to see the inspiration behind the dish. And kinda wished I had enough money to buy tins of caviar....one day. (COME OOOOOON MEGA MILLIONAIRE!!!!!)

Checked out Please Don't Tell that night as well, which is one of the very well know 'speak easy' style bars in NYC. Kind of ironic if you think about it.....

Peter Luger got ticked off as well. Not too much to say about it, tasty, juicy steak.

Also checked out Hanjan, where I have wanted to try since before I got here. 'Korean tapas' was what the server described their cuisine as. They should just call it 'F'ing delicious'. Pork fat 떡볶이 was unlike anything I've ever had in Korea (and apparently they used to be even better) and their 족발 (pig trotter) was so tender and little sticky from gelatine which reminded me of my grandma's cooking.

MMMMM....족발........
Hosler and I decided, at this point, that it would be a great idea to go for a second dinner where she used to work.

Great idea but also a very terrible idea to eat before hand.

One of the great perks of working in 'the industry' (besides the great pay, excellent hours, available holidays, easy job etc etc.....) is that often times if people know you where you go out, you will get treated very well. And treated very well, we did.

Our plan was to have kind of a supper with a few dumplings and some duck.

That plan went out the window the minute someone recognised Hosler.

We ordered one main dish and ended up with like 6 dishes. Didn't need to order desserts and warned that the pastry chef, whom Hosler worked closely with, would probably go over board with desserts. Remember, we have essentially had two dinners already.

4 main dishes

And ALLL OF THE DESSERTS!!!
This lady beside us was so jealous of our royal treatment and took this photo for us. Jerk.

Great photo, lady.

Walked past Wooster st Social Club where Megan Massacre, 'a tattoo artist, DJ and alternative model', who I'm quite fond of, works. I saw her through the window and really wanted to go say hi and even take a photo together (to make Ally jealous) but I was too shy. Kinda like a fat, awkward  kid with braces trying to ask the famous girl to prom. Yea.

God damn it's been snowing so much!!! Apparently it hasn't been this bad here in a while. Great timing Jae.

My cousin is coming over from Korea in the next couple of weeks so I should have some touristy things to post about soon! I do hope everyone is well and keeping warm (or cool, depending where you are)!!
